In the UK, there are 5,000 adults living with motor neurone disease, says the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.
When you have MND, everyday tasks can feel impossible to do on your own. As a progressive illness, people living with the condition are constantly adapting to new challenges presented by the symptoms.
We believe everyone deserves a fulfilling life, which is why we created our motor neurone disease care at home. Let’s discover how our team can support you, together.
What is Motor Neurone Disease?
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a rare condition affecting the brain and nerves, causing challenges with voluntary muscle movement.
Early signs include a weak, stiff feeling in the muscles, which often starts in just one limb. People may experience involuntary twitches alongside this, making it difficult to walk or pick up a cup of tea. As it’s progressive, these symptoms only get worse over time.
What this looks like for those living with the condition can be incredibly taxing. As the disease progresses, muscles weaken, making speaking, swallowing, and even breathing hard to do unsupported.
As of right now, there is no cure for MND. Though there is support available to help people with the condition manage its symptoms.
Our Motor Neurone Disease Care
We’re dedicated to making sure people with MND receive the support they need – that’s where our motor neurone disease care comes in.
Together, we can take it day by day. With our dedicated professionals on hand to provide support, companionship, and guidance, we can navigate the challenges of this complex illness as a team.
We offer daily care to those living with MND, covering a range of areas, including:
- Assistance with personal care (washing, dressing, and grooming)
- Support eating and drinking, including meal preparation
- Health monitoring to ensure changing care needs are met
- Guidance on appropriate aids and devices for the individual
- Emotional reassurance and companionship
- Help with household tasks and daily routines

I never wanted any carers but had to have them after breaking my leg,it was the best decision I ever made. I’ve always struggled and done things myself,I’ve always hated asking for help. My “Mountbatten carers” are an absolute godsend, they are kind, caring, they help me with everything, washing, dressing, getting up from my chair, anything I need. They do,nothing is a problem for them. I ended up in hospital again before Christmas and was diagnosed with heart failure,so now I’m dealing with that as well as all my other medical problems. I’m not steady on my feet so I’m glad when I get up I’ve got both my carers to hold on too,I can’t even carry anything as I use crutches. I rely on my carers so much mentally and physically,I don’t know where I’d be without themPosted on Debbie McAllister
